skating
Hello all! I just wanted to update everyone about Skate-A-Way. At the beginning of the school year, the PTA board decided to revise the contract to 3 events this year all to be on Monday Nights. The first was Nov. 17th.I was there skating and giving away fun prizes that the PTA purchased to raffle off. Note: this was accomplished with the DJ and using the microphone if you can imagine that. It was very successful and fun for the 62 people who chose to support it. That was a great number for the first one and it means the PTA received some money toward its budget. We hope you will encourage your students to attend the second event on Monday,Feb. 9th. Maybe even a few of you will come! Some of my former and current students enjoyed skating and dancing with me. By the way, we danced at the end to a new version of the Cha-Cha Slide and to the Cupid Shuffle. I look forward to seeing you there, with or without skates!

Daily 5
Beth & Crystal both mentioned the book "the Daily 5-Fostering Literacy Independence in the Elementary Grades" this summer. I just got a copy & it's absolutely AWESOME-especially for the beginning of the school year. There's a lot of helpful information to help teachers "work smarter, not harder"!!! Maybe we can get a copy for the library?

Fun and Money
Yesterday, Kenya and I spoke on the telephone and planned to go skating with our children one afternoon this week. As the PTA rep for Skate-A-Way this year, it is now on my mind. Before I leave the house this morning, I wanted to go ahead and submit my first skating "plug" of the year. You may or may not know that there was a great team effort in the spring to increase attendance so that we can continue to have this PTA event (i.e., also receive the PTA money from it).
This year, I'd really like to get more of us involved in it. Even if you choose not to skate, your support would be greatly appreciated.
These events are going to continue to be on Wednesdays. Although we realize that is a conflict for some people, it cannot be changed for next year unless our attendance increases greatly this year. Skating is great for exercise, coordination, a mental break, and lots of fun memories that can be related to school. Hope to see some of your students, and maybe even you, there sometime this year! :-)

Interesting
A grand idea! What a fantastic way for all of us to share ideas beyond the PLC meetings. Definitely another way to exercise the brain to make more neural connections and be connected to each other. Looking forward to it. I hope you're all enjoying the last bit of summer.

Blogg - huh???
This is a great idea! I had to consult with some people about what to do; and I thought I was pretty computer literate!

Welcome Hening Hornets!
I've created this Blog as a way for the Hening staff to share our ideas, thoughts, and stories about the job.
I hope this will serve as another way for to communicate and build community.
Hope to hear from you soon!
